Miranda Lu - Cerebral palsy (USA) Post on February 9, 2011

Name: Miranda Lu
Sex: Female
Country: USA
Age: 58
Diagnoses: Cerebral palsy, Autism
Admission Date: 2011-12-12
Days Admitted to Hospital: 30

Miranda had delayed speech development when she was 15 months old and had difficulty communicating with her family members. So her parents took her to their local hospital and she received a series of examinations. Genetic testing results revealed that the 15th chromosome pair was abnormal. The local doctors thought this was the cause of her developmental delay. Miranda received speech therapy and physical rehabilitation, but her condition did not have any major improvements. With the physical rehabilitation training Miranda received about a year ago, her walking ability had improved and she could walk a short distance but her balance was poor. The muscle strength of both legs and lower back was weak. With assistance from other people, she could walk in a stable manner. Although Miranda had made good improvements with her walking, her cognitive functioning was impaired and she had a difficult time communicating with other people. She also had noticeable mood swings.

During the nervous system examination, Miranda could only produce simple sounds and did not have autonomous language ability. She was emotionally unstable and expressed unhappiness and anger. She couldn't cope with the memory, orientation or calculation ability examinations. Miranda also had difficulty standing and walking. The muscle strength of the legs was weak. When Miranda was relaxed, the muscle tone of the legs and arms was normal. Miranda couldn't cope with the examination of the sensory system or the coordinated movement examination. From the onset of the disease, Miranda had irregular hours of sleep. She did not experience any dizziness, headaches or convulsions.

After admission, Miranda received all of the relevant examinations and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and autism. She received autologous stem cell treatment, neurological rehabilitation treatment and physical therapy.

After the completion of the stem cell treatment, Miranda was able to maintain eye contact for a longer period of time. She has a longer attention span and responds faster to people's instructions. The motor functioning has improved. The walking posture is more stable even when she is walking upstairs. She can turn more quickly and easily. The frequency of falling over has been reduced. The muscle strength of the legs and lower back has increased.
