By Head Nurse Yan Wang
It's Friday morning and the Nurses were making their routine rounds. I said good morning to Hailey as usual when I entered her room, something amazing happened. Hailey's mouth opened a little more and her tongue moved after Miranda, her mother, told her to say hi to me. It was obvious that Hailey was saying hi to me even though her voice was not loud enough to be heard. "She tried to speak! I can see that," I said. I saw that Miranda's eyes were shining. Miranda was so excited and eager to tell us the great progress her daughter was making. She said Hailey had been trying to talk to her for days now. Yesterday, in the OT room, Hailey even held her head up for three minutes for the first time by herself. I could sense her mother's great delight when she emphasized that Hailey could hold her head up for those three minutes and the delight spread to the nurses, including myself. We all seemed to be happier than usual, as is the case every time any patient makes progress.
